What is exactly stored when you store a configuration

It Is not clear to me what is stored in a configuration. Is there documenations about this?

in the configuration all configured and programmed data of all apps should be stored. (e.g. Motion config, PLC program, Ethercat config, ....) Means by copy the configuration from one ctrlX to another ctrlX (with the same apps) you can generate a control with the same behaviour.
