Compatibility Considerations App Build Environment to CtrlX OS

Hi,

we are looking into developing Apps with the App Build Environment for a target system with CtrlX OS. I want to ensure that the created software operates seamlessly on the target system.

I saw in the QEMU launch.bat that the App Build Environment is a standard Ubuntu 22.04 machine.

Can I assume, that SW running in this environment will run in ctrlX OS later too?

Hint: We use ethernet/usb based 3D cameras in the apps we built.

Are there specific requirements and compatibility considerations we need to take into account when developing applications? E.g. are there kernel modules available which are not available in CtrlX OS?

Hi @EchoHarmony ,

The App Build Environment is a great tool for fast iterative development, but there is not a 100% seemless translation to the physical device. A few things to consider...

1. Architecture. Your app build environment is likely an amd system, whereas the ctrlX CORE x3 is arm. There may be nuances when deploying to each architecture.
2. The OS and kernel modules. CtrlX OS is based on Ubuntu, but is not the exact same OS as the App Build Environment.
3. Reserved interfaces. There are a number of ports, slots and plugs that are reserved by the system. So long as you don't use these in your application, there should be no issue deploying on ctrlX OS.

To summarize, the App Build Environment is a great development tool, but does not guarantee functionality on the target device. It will always be necessary to test your application on the runtime system.
