Hi,
According the ctrlX DRIVE project planning manual, chapter 4.3.17 DC bus coupling, we can use the XAS4 DC bus adapter to connect Drives in a multiple line arrangement. The connection is done with twisted cables and the XAS4 adapter.
So far so good, but in the note is mentioned:
- Always install DC bus capacitor units XLC at each displaced drive package
- Install the DC bus capacitor units XLC at the point of DC bus infeed of the displaced drive package.
So my questions are:
Does this mean that if I want to arrange my drives in a multiple line arrangement, using the XAS4 adapter, I always need to install a DC bus capacitor?
If yes, why do we need the DC bus capacitor?
Thanks,

The recommendation is to always use the DC bus capacitor, but you may address to your technical sales representative to clarify if it is needed in all cases. Sometimes it is not needed.
The DC bus capacitor is used to increase the storable energy in the DC bus. This makes sense for systems with DC bus connections > 2 m between the drive controllers to back up the DC bus.
