During installation, you can either update an existing installation or perform a new installation. A parallel installation of several ctrlX WORKS engineering environments is also possible. ctrlX WORKS runs on a PC where a Windows 10 64-bit operating system is required. Currently, no special licenses are required.
Device Managment
The menu item "Devices" lists all ctrlX CORE and projected ctrlX COREvirtual controls that are available and pinned in the network. The automatic device detection in the network detects devices from the same subnet. This includes an automatic configuration of the network interface of the device. Common standards such as DHCP, UPNP or mDNS allow the device detection in the network without a required user configuration.
To test functions and configurations without control hardware on a PC, ctrlX WORKS provides the ctrlX COREvirtual. It emulates the ctrlX CORE control in a Linux environment on a Windows PC. Several virtual controllers can be installed in parallel. Note the following system requirements when using the ctrlX COREvirtual:
- Windows 10 64 Bit
- 8 GB RAM
- Processor: Intel or AMD with support of the virtualization technology (Intel VT or AMD V)
Framework for Engineering tools
ctrlX WORKS is the central touchpoint for all engineering tasks in ctrlX AUTOMATION. Thanks to its modular structure, it can be flexibly adapted to specific requirements. It is scalable from a lean framework with Device Manager, License Manager and other useful tools to a comprehensive, powerful engineering environment. Bosch Rexroth already offers a number of engineering tools, and in future it will even be possible to integrate tools from other providers:
- ctrlX PLC Engineering
- ctrlX I/O Engineering
- ctrlX DRIVE Engineering
- ctrlX SAFETY Engineering
- ctrlX Cam Designer
App Build Environment
Users have the option of developing their own ctrlX OS apps. Bosch Rexroth provides the ctrlX Software Development Kit for this purpose. It contains some libraries, documentation, description of the REST-API and different samples. In addition, ctrlX WORKS provides the function to automatically create a Linux build environment for the development of ctrlX OS apps on a Windows PC - simply by pressing a button. Several app build environments can be used in parallel.
Latest features in version 2.6
- The installation of ctrlX WORKS now only contains SW packages for ctrlX WORKS, Virtual Control and App Build Environment. The installations of ctrlX PLC Engineering, ctrlX I/O Engineering, ctrlX DRIVE Engineering and ctrlX SAFETY Engineering are each provided as individual setups. ctrlX WORKS identifies the versions of the aforementioned SW products installed on the computer and provides them for selection in the Engineering Tools menu.
-
ctrlX WORKS supports the creation of setup file repositories (locally or on a server) to display updates and setups.
- ctrlX PLC Engineering
- “Licensed Software Metrics” information is available on the device node of the control. The parameters to be taken into account for licensing are determined in the current project.
